25 Healthy Snack Ideas (Pregnancy Edition)
Hi All and happy end of the week!!
There are quite a few go-to snacks that I have been LOVING recently, and I thought I would put them into a list to help my fellow snackers out there, try a few new delicious/healthy snack recipes. A lot of these are summery, lighter options and definitely guilt free!
While pregnant, I have been trying to be more conscientious when I can about what I am snacking on, and try for healthier alternatives. Of course, there are times where I allow myself to indulge and enjoy the experience of crazy cravings...but for the most part have been trying to continue on the healthy route.
I have listed 25 of my favorite healthy snacks below!
1. Honey Crisp Apples & Sharp Cheddar Cheese sticks: FIRST, this has been an absolute CRAVING for me while being pregnant, but definitely a great option for a sweet and savory snack, packed with both fiber and protein. I also bring cut up apples to work for a snack as well during the day. To keep them from turning brown, I will sprinkle some fresh lemon juice on them. This makes them sweet and sour at the same time. The tart apples, mixed with the creamy cheese sticks are the BEST combination.
2. Peanut Butter & Banana Bites
I will slice up banana and add some peanut butter or almond butter on top. It tastes even better if you put the banana in the fridge for a bit, so that they are nice and cold.
3. Raspberries & Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
4. Cucumber Slices with Hummus (When not pregnant, I like to add shredded deli turkey meat on top as well!)
5. Grapes
6. Crispy Veggies
7. Yogurt: I like to add cheerios on top, granola or cacao nibs. One of my favorite yogurt brands is Siggis!
8. Smoothie Bowls Usually I go to Costco and Aldi for the frozen fruit. These are both good places to get the best deals for larger bags of mixed fruit options!
9. Fresh mozarella, basil, tomatoes & balsamic vinegar OR balsamic glaze
The balsamic glaze I really like is this one:
10. Tomatoes with shredded cheese, salt and pepper. I could eat these cold or pop them in the microwave, to heat them up. I prefer these with cheddar cheese! SO GOOD!
11. Fruit Leathers
12. Oatmeal with peanut butter & honey
13. FRUIT!!!!! Honestly, any kind of fruit is my go to, I love melon, pineapple, berries, bananas, mangoes, pears, peaches and plums to name a few.
14. Organic Green Olives & Charcuterie / Cheese Board
A lot of times I make an at home cheese or Charcuterie board. I love using water crackers, different cheeses, and fruit spreads. I love the organic green olives at pick'n save in the deli section. I have them below..and they are very natural tasting, and not too salty. I could eat the entire container in one sitting if I allowed myself.
15. Nuts (Macadamia are my absolute favorite). Packed with sources of vitamin A, iron, protein, and calcium. These honestly taste like popcorn, but better.
16. Hard Boiled Eggs (since I cannot have runny eggs, while being pregnant) I have really enjoyed having these as a snack or in the morning for breakfast. I will also throw them on top of a salad.
17. Edamame I tend to sprinkle mine with sea salt and a little bit of low sodium soy sauce. I usually buy the big bag from Costco, because it has individual serving sized bags on the inside. So you can make smaller servings each time.
18. Baked/Roasted Sweet Potatoes: Depending on the size of the sweet potato, I will bake them for 30-45 minutes. Normally I just add a little butter and seasoning once they come out. But if I want something a little sweeter, I would sprinkle some brown sugar on top.
19. Cottage Cheese: I will sprinkle some salt and pepper on it OR add fruit like peaches or grapes. Franks Red Hot is always another good option!
20. Applesauce: I will also sprinkle this with some cinnamon
21. Tuna Salad : with celery and tomatoes. While pregnant, I also have to be careful of the amount of tuna I consume..so I have had maybe one helping since being pregnant.
22. Avocado Slices : There are so many different ways to use avocado slices. Avocados in general help in providing us with good fatty acids, which aid in heart health and contain loads of potassium. Again, Frank's Red Hot seasoning is delicious, and of course eating slices with anything TACO related.
23. Baked Sugar Snap Peas. These help when I am craving something salty and crunchy, and better than indulging in a bag of normal Lays potato chips.
24. Organic Sweet Potato Crackers. This is also another good Costco buy along with #23. These are so fulfilling when you need something crunchy and chip-like.
25. BONE BROTH. This one is a newer one for me. I LOVE the organic chicken bone broth, and have also tried the beef as well. I will heat it up in a mug, season it with salt and pepper. I will also squeeze fresh lime juice into it, and cut up some green onion and add to the mug. This tastes like an amazing SOUP. And is also filling.
I hope you enjoyed reading through some of these snack ideas!
